For students pursuing a degree in diesel technology

For the third year, Prairie State Tractor is excited to offer diesel mechanic scholarships aimed at developing and supporting future ag service technicians. The funds for this scholarship were raised at the Farmer's Open at Timber Ridge Golf Club in Lacon, Illinois with the support of the local farming community. For the 2024-2025 school year, we will be awarding $11,500 in scholarships to diesel tech students. The number of recipients and amounts awarded will vary. Read below how you can apply.

Applications are due by April 1, 2024

Eligibility:
  • Must be a graduating high school senior OR current college student.
  • Must be planning to or enrolled in a diesel technology or John Deere tech school program with the intent of becoming a Service Technician after graduating. (Even if you're already enrolled in our Tech Student Program, you're encouraged to apply for this scholarship as well. However, you are NOT required to be in our Tech Student Program to apply.)
Application must contain:
  • A fully completed electronic Scholarship Application form.
  • 2 letters of reference – speaking to the applicant’s interest and passion for mechanics and/or agriculture. Preferably from non-family members.
  • Most current official high school or college transcript.
  • A photo of the applicant (to be used if selected as a recipient).
  • written essay (500 – 700 words) OR video submission (3 – 4 minutes) on why you believe you should receive a scholarship. UPLOADING VIDEO: We will accept videos from several formats including YouTube, TikTok, Vimeo, etc. Please upload your video and email the link to careers@pstractor.com.
Complete applications will be scored by a committee according to the following criteria:
  • Essay/Video (30 pts)
  • Grades (20 pts)
  • References (20 pts)
  • Community/Extra-Curricular Involvement (30 pts)
Announcement of selected candidates and distribution of funds:

Winners will be notified by May 1, 2024

Funds will be distributed once proof of enrollment into the educational program has been provided to the scholarship committee. Upon notification of selection, scholarship recipients will be informed of the address to send enrollment verification. If a selected candidate fails to provide proof of enrollment into an educational program or does not attend the educational program fall semester of 2024, the next eligible candidate will be awarded the scholarship in their stead. Please note that winners will be also required to provide a short thank you video and/or attend the 2024 Farmer's Open golf outing.

By applying, the applicant is granting permission for Prairie State Tractor to potentially use submitted material and/or photos of the applicant on either the company’s website, social media accounts, or published materials highlighting the scholarship program and retains rights to all entries once submitted.
